My First Speed Craft Challenge Project

Happy happy Monday my Dear Sweet Friends - Yep this is my second post for today.

I am over the charts excited about this project.  I stumbled across a new challenge blog called Speed Craft Challenge and its delightfully fun. It's absolutely a great idea - especially for someone like me (more about that later).

Here's the scoop:

I had only 10 minutes to create my project.
I could create anything I wanted to and I was able to have my supplies ready before I hit the timer.

So I grabbed some scrap stuff, sat down at the table outside on the deck because part of the challenge was to use Ink Sprays or Spritzers (this was my first time with Ink Sprays) and it was finally time to jump into the Challenge Zone and pushed the timer button.

I grabbed a small clipboard, tore off some cardstock and used Mod Podge to seal the paper to the clipboard.  Used my blow dryer to speed up the drying time (hint:  works faster on the "cool" rather than "hot"). Sprayed some "Tattered Angels" Glimmer Mist (Tattered Leather) around the outside edges.  Used the blow dryer again.  Stamped the butterfly image but the inside part of the image was missing.  I stamped it again hoping to get the middle of the butterfly to imprint on the cardstock but to no avail. A few moments of panic flooded my body as I ran to my craft room to find a pretty flower to cover up the missing parts of the butterfly.  Found one - ran back outside and glued the butterfly down and when the timer went off I wasn't quite finished with my project (big sigh).   The picture below shows exactly how far I got and I wasn't to thrilled about it but at the same time I was happy happy happy.

And so my dear sweet friends - this is my challenge entry to the Speed Craft Challenge.  It's not finished yet but it's still my entry and it's okay.  The ceilings didn't cave in, the walls didn't tremble and the sky didn't fall.

(10 minute time frame)
(And I am submitting this into the Speed Craft Challenge)

Finished project @ 12 minutes)

So I am going to enter this project and post it tonight however tomorrow I will show you what the finished project was suppose to look it.  I will take the photo first thing tomorrow morning.

Now, what I loved about doing this project and why it is good for someone like me:

It doesn't have to take hours to create something pretty.

I have a tendency to over think things and need to do everything PERFECTLY.  I spend way to much time trying to get everything all figured out and before I know it daylight has turned into darkness and I didn't get much accomplished other than sitting at my craft table trying to figure it out.  What this challenge helped me remember is that crafting is suppose to be fun, relaxing and stress free but a lot of times the joy I was hoping for was no where to be found. I remember there were times when I was crafting with my daughters and sister and I was paralyzed with fear.  I couldn't do anything.  My daughters were busy, my sister was busy but I was still frozen in my chair.  My daughters said, "Mom, this is suppose to be fun" and I sobbed "but it's not".

And so with this challenge I was "forced" to make instant decisions.  I didn't have time to worry about doing it perfectly.  Like Nike says,  "Just Do It" and I did.  And it was so much fun.  I hit a setback but had to figure out a comeback.  This challenge changed things within me in 10 minutes and it didn't cost me a therapy session.  It was FUN.  It was EXHILARATING. There was no FEAR.  There was laughter and most of all JOY.

And so I have decided I am going to take 10 minutes out of each day and see what I can create.  I won't enter them all into the Speed Craft Challenge but I may enter some of them.  It's been a great day and I can't wait to see what comes to life in tomorrow's 10 minute crafting session.

Thanks so much for stopping by - I appreciate your taking the time to visit my blog and leaving such sweet comments for me.  I hope you will check out the Speed Craft Challenge and give it a try.  It really is a blast.

The photo of the finished project will be posted tomorrow by mid-morning.

With hugs, smiles and joy

Laine
